Welcome to my Wafuku.co.uk WordPress blog
Today I packaged sold items and lugged them all to my local post office. For once there was no queue, which was a treat. I then came home and printed out all the details for the newly arrived kimonos and haoris, having paid the import duty to Parcel Force yesterday and had them delivered today (and got another letter saying I had another package awaiting £95 duty to be paid before delivery). There were about a dozen items in the box, including some nice men’s kimonos, one of which is longer than usual, so will be good for a tall man. A couple had marks I hadn’t expected, which was a tad disappointing, as I try to avoid garments with marks but, inevitably, there are a few.
I plan to make a Bargain Box section on my Wafuku.co.uk site. It will take a while to get it up, running and stocked and it won’t have a huge amount of items but I do have some things to put in it; slightly marked or damaged garments and some clearance bits and pieces. A girl who is designing a float for the Jersey Battle of Flowers, with a Japanese theme, may require kimonos for that, so that may put a big dent in the ones for the Bargain Box but I’m sure I’ll still have a few for it.
I added a Bookmark & Share menu button on my Wafuku.co.uk site’s menu
Now I’ll go and take some photos of kimonos, to prepare for my site. I’ll also select some to photograph tomorrow when my daughter visits, as she models some for me. Tomorrow I will blog here some more; I’ve thought of a selection of kimono/Japan related topics I’d like to include here. I’m new to blogging but think I’m starting to get into the swing of it.
Below you see a pretty odori tsugesake kimono. An odori kimono is one worn by a traditional, Japanese dancer. This one is made of synthetic silk, as odori kimonos often are, to make it hand washable, which silk ones aren’t. Like most vintage kimonos, it is entirely hand tailored, so should only be hand washed, as a washing machine can rip the hand stitching.
